After High School, I joined the Marine Corps, serving 4 years from 1966 to 1970 and was deployed to Vietnam in 1967-8. After my military service I worked for a total of 40 years, acquiring work experience in line work, management and administration of a large transportation company, retiring in 2006. Moving to Coos Bay in 2008 I decided to give back to the community. I joined the CRFPD in 2010 volunteering to become a firefighter and a first responder. I then took all the training available and became an engineer and an EMT. I have responded to many medical calls, fire calls and have served this district by extricating injured people from motor vehicle accidents, serving on the rope rescue team, the SFIT team (fire investigation team} and  our Wildfire Conflagration team 2018. I served on the Charleston Rural Fire Protection District budget committee to help insure financial oversight before running to become a board member.  Additionally, I have served 8 years on two area Charleston Special District boards, as President of the Board, Treasurer and Secretary. This experience gives me an insight into the needs of our district both in financial matters and in the importance of building a team of professionals.

As a member of the board, it is our job to maintain the highest standards of training for our volunteers and paid staff, maintaining the equipment to the highest safety standards for the protection of our fire district and maintain a financial stability and health to our district and to the tax payers to insure that their money is well spent, and not wasted.
